Public Sector People are working with a local council to recruit a Asset Data Capitalisation Officer for an 8-month temporary contract assignment.

The Asset Data Capitalisation Officer is a specialised role within a dedicated and supportive Asset Management team. This position plays a pivotal role in ensuring accurate and compliant capitalisation of assets, strengthening data governance, and optimising asset data processes to support financial reporting and long-term infrastructure planning.

The successful candidate will focus on asset capitalisation duties, data quality improvement, procedure development, and the provision of reliable financial data from the asset management system, including integration with cloud-based enterprise asset management platform. This role contributes directly to robust financial asset reporting, audit compliance, and data-driven strategic decision-making.

Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake asset capitalisation duties in line with established Standard Operating Procedures, ensuring accurate and timely recognition of capital expenditure
  • Maintain and update Standard Operating Procedures to support consistent and compliant asset data management practices
  • Prepare and manage financial data extracted from the Asset Management System to support monthly depreciation, fair value assessments, revaluations, capitalisation adjustments, and year-end audit requirements
  • Analyse asset datasets to validate capitalisation accuracy, identify discrepancies, and support long-term financial modelling for asset renewal and replacement
  • Contribute to ongoing improvements in data quality, governance, and documentation across capitalisation processes
  • Participate in regular meetings with Asset Management and Finance stakeholders, providing insights on systems, data, and reporting
  • Support asset-focused projects, including policy reviews, system enhancements, and data integration initiatives
  • Assist with the management, testing, and enhancement of interfaces into Asset Management Software to ensure seamless data flow for financial reporting
Qualifications, Experience and Skills
  • Tertiary qualification in Asset Management, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Demonstrated experience in asset capitalisation processes, financial data management, and compliance within a public sector, local government, or similar regulated environment.
  • Knowledge of accounting standards (e.g., AASB 116 Property, Plant and Equipment, AASB 13 Fair Value Measurement) and capitalisation policies.
  • Proven ability to prepare depreciation schedules, fair value assessments, revaluations, and audit-ready financial data from asset management systems.
  • Experience with enterprise asset management systems.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex asset datasets, ensure capitalisation accuracy, and provide actionable insights.
  • Proficiency in developing and documenting procedures to ensure compliance,
  • consistency, and efficiency in capitalisation workflows.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and familiarity with data extraction, reporting, and visualisation tools.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with experience
  • collaborating across finance, asset planning, and IT teams.
  • Experience in system integrations between asset management platforms and GIS systems.
  • Involvement in data governance initiatives or system optimisation projects related to asset capitalisation.
  • Knowledge of International Infrastructure Management Manual (IIMM) or ISO 55000 standards.
