Public Sector People are partnering with a council in Northwest Sydney to recruit an experienced
Asset Accountant
to join their Infrastructure Services team on a short-term contract.
This is a 2–3-month contract to start ASAP!
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working at the intersection of finance, systems, and infrastructure, playing a key role in how asset data informs long-term planning and decision-making across the organisation.
You’ll be involved in everything from maintaining asset registers and processing transactions, through to financial modelling and contributing to long-term financial planning.
Key responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end asset accounting including capitalisation, depreciation, revaluations, impairments and disposals
- Maintain and reconcile the asset register and ensure system integrity
- Support Asset Management Plans and the Long-Term Financial Plan through modelling and analysis
- Contribute to statutory reporting, financial statements, and special schedules
- Provide financial advice and insights to internal stakeholders
- Identify and improve systems, processes, and reporting capability
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and project-based financial analysis
About you
- Experience in local government or public sector is preferred
- Experience in asset accounting or fixed asset management
- Strong understanding of accounting standards and financial reporting requirements
- Exposure to asset registers, asset systems, and lifecycle costing
- Experience with TechnologyOne or similar ERP systems (desirable)
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or similar (CPA/CA preferred or working towards)
