Public Sector People are working with a large Queensland Government department, to recruit an experienced Principal Financial Accountant to join their Financial Accounting Team, based in Brisbane CBD.
Initial Contract until 27th Feb 2027
Rate: AO7 - $88.29 to $94.50 per hour plus super
Location: Brisbane CBD
Your Role:
Working within the Financial Accounting Team, you'll play a key role in delivering the department's statutory financial reporting obligations, coordinating QAO audits, and providing expert technical accounting advice, while supporting the Manager, Financial Accounting with the day-to-day operations of the team.

Your Role:
Working within the Financial Accounting Team, you'll play a key role in delivering the department's statutory financial reporting obligations, coordinating QAO audits, and providing expert technical accounting advice, while supporting the Manager, Financial Accounting with the day-to-day operations of the team.
Your Responsibilities:
- Lead the preparation and delivery of financial statements in line with Australian Accounting Standards and Queensland Treasury's Financial Reporting Requirements
- Ensure compliance with statutory reporting requirements, including annual financial statements and coordination of external audit processes
- Provide accurate and timely financial reporting to internal and external stakeholders
- Monitor compliance with financial legislation and policy, and advise on emerging standards and regulatory changes
- Interpret new accounting guidance and prepare technical position papers for senior management
- Prepare month-end journals and reconciliations
- Support the Manager, Financial Accounting in team operations, coaching, and issue resolution
- Assist with urgent requests including Ministerial briefings, audit requests, and position papers
- Build strong working relationships across Departmental finance teams and with Queensland Treasury
- Extensive experience in financial accounting, including preparation of Annual Statutory Financial Statements
- Experience preparing movement/lead schedules, reconciliations, and notes disclosures
- Strong working knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and Queensland Treasury Financial Reporting Requirements
- CPA/CA (ICAA) or MIPA (IPA) membership highly desirable
- Queensland Government financial reporting experience highly regarded
