Reporting into Corporate Finance, you'll bring strong technical financial accounting expertise to support internal controls, compliance and audit activity, while contributing to the department's month-end, EOFY and financial reporting obligations.

Your Responsibilities
  • Monitor key internal controls, finance systems and assurance activities to validate financial compliance
  • Develop and implement internal controls, proactively identifying risk
  • Provide expert advice on the resolution of internal and external audit issues
  • Apply expert knowledge to the design and implementation of financial processes and procedures, including maintenance of the department's Financial Management and Practice Manual (FMPM) and financial delegations

  • Provide financial management advice and support to departmental staff
  • Contribute to end-of-month and end-of-financial-year activities, including journal review and preparation

  • Support the identification of training needs in financial accounting and contribute to training program development
  • Maintain the integrity of the department's financial accounting records and systems in line with accounting standards, legislative and departmental requirements
  • Assist with financial system upgrades, enhancements and testing
What We're Looking For
  • Demonstrated experience in a similar Senior Financial Accountant role, ideally within Queensland State Government or the broader public sector
  • Strong technical financial accounting knowledge, including internal controls, reconciliations and audit processes
  • Experience contributing to financial statement preparation and month-end/EOFY processes
  • Tertiary qualification in Commerce, Business or Accounting, and/or membership with CA ANZ, CPA Australia or equivalent (highly regarded, not mandatory)
  • Ability to communicate clearly with stakeholders across all levels
  • Must be available to start immediately
