Public Sector People partnering with a respected Queensland State Government department to recruit an experienced AO6 Financial Accountant. This role sits within a high-performing finance team and supports the delivery of accurate financial reporting, compliance, and analysis across the organisation.
  • Location: Brisbane CBD
  • Contract until 30th June with potential extension
  • Hourly Rate: $78.02 plus super

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:
  • Lead month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end financial processes
  • Prepare compliant financial statements and associated working papers
  • Deliver high-quality variance analysis and financial performance commentary
  • Support budget development, forecasting, and financial modelling
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and compliance
  • Manage asset accounting functions including valuation, capitalisation, and depreciation
  • Respond to internal and external audit requests
  • Provide expert financial advice to internal stakeholders
  • Identify opportunities to streamline financial systems and reporting processes
About You

To succeed in this role, you will have:
  • Demonstrated experience in financial accounting roles (government experience highly regarded)
  • Strong understanding of Australian Accounting Standards and public sector financial frameworks
  • Advanced financial analysis and reporting skills
  • Experience working with large ERP systems
  • High attention to detail with excellent written and verbal communication
  • Ability to work autonomously while collaborating effectively with stakeholders
Qualifications:
  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, or similar
  • CPA/CA qualified or progressing towards certification (desirable)
