Public Sector People partnering with a respected Queensland State Government department to recruit an experienced AO6 Financial Accountant. This role sits within a high-performing finance team and supports the delivery of accurate financial reporting, compliance, and analysis across the organisation.

Location: Brisbane CBD
Contract until 30th June with potential extension
Hourly Rate: $78.02 plus super

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

Lead month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end financial processes
Prepare compliant financial statements and associated working papers
Deliver high-quality variance analysis and financial performance commentary
Support budget development, forecasting, and financial modelling
Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and compliance
Manage asset accounting functions including valuation, capitalisation, and depreciation
Respond to internal and external audit requests
Provide expert financial advice to internal stakeholders
Identify opportunities to streamline financial systems and reporting processes

About You

To succeed in this role, you will have:

Demonstrated experience in financial accounting roles (government experience highly regarded)
Strong understanding of Australian Accounting Standards and public sector financial frameworks
Advanced financial analysis and reporting skills
Experience working with large ERP systems
High attention to detail with excellent written and verbal communication
Ability to work autonomously while collaborating effectively with stakeholders

Qualifications:

Degree in Accounting, Finance, or similar
CPA/CA qualified or progressing towards certification (desirable)
