Public Sector People are working with a large State Government Department to recruit an AO3 Finance Officer on an initial 3 month contract to support daily costing, financial administration, procurement and project workflows across multiple operational teams. This role provides excellent exposure across the organisation and suits someone who enjoys variety in a fast‑paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

- Financial & Costing Support
  • Process daily costing and timesheet transactions, including revenue claims.
  • Monitor project and work order financial positions to ensure accuracy.
  • Provide early warnings on variances and budget deviations.
  • Prepare accurate End of Month and ad‑hoc financial reports.
  • Perform financial reconciliations using SAP R/3.
- Procurement & Inventory
  • Assist with the requisition and purchasing of goods and services to maintain operational workflows.
  • Support procurement practices that reduce costs and improve efficiency.
  • Monitor inventory purchases and cost allocations, and support stocktakes.
  • Investigate and resolve routine supplier queries and complaints.
- Payroll & Timesheets
  • Validate employee timesheets for correct allowances and entitlements.
  • Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies in accordance with relevant awards and policies.
- Governance & Administration
  • Maintain strong governance across finance, procurement and administrative processes.
  • Provide accurate advice and support to project teams.
  • Contribute to a positive team environment and continuous improvement culture.

Key Skills Required: 
  • Finance, accounts or payroll experience
  • Administration support within operational or project‑based environments
  • Scheduling or cost‑tracking capability
  • Procurement or invoicing experience
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
  • High attention to detail
  • Experience with SAP R/3 (advantageous)
