Our client, a Local Council in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, is seeking an experienced Accounting Officer to join their Finance team on a temporary contract till Dec 2026. Reporting to the Financial Accountant Coordinator, this role manages the Accounts Receivable function and supports broader finance operations, offering genuine autonomy and the chance to contribute to continuous improvement across finance systems and processes.

Key responsibilities
  • Manage the Accounts Receivable workflow, ensuring timely and accurate processing of invoices and correct allocation of cash received
  • Act as first point of contact for the Accounts Receivable mailbox, resolving debtor enquiries and adjustment entries in line with internal procedure
  • Import daily banking transactions and support departments to progress the collection of aged debtors
  • Perform bond and retention reconciliations, refund processes, and support general ledger and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Carry out end of month processes including revenue reconciliation, statement distribution, and non-Rates debtor reporting
  • Manage revenue recognition in line with accounting standards as part of monthly and annual processes
  • Prepare end of year revenue, debtor, and debt provision reconciliations and financial notes
  • Contribute to the review and improvement of finance policies, procedures, and systems
About you
  • Demonstrated experience in an Accounts Recievable role, preferably within Government, Education, Aged Care/Healthcare
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles, practices, and taxation rules, with strong reconciliation skills
  • A post-secondary qualification in accounting, finance, or business management, with relevant experience
  • Study towards or completion of CPA or CA ANZ is highly regarded but not essential
  • TechnologyOne CIA experience ideal
