Public Sector People are working with a State Government organisation within Brisbane who are seeking a Principal RTI officer on a 6-month contract.
    
Overview: 

  • ASAP Start
  • Pay $87 per hour + 12% super
  • Location: Brisbane CBD
  • WFH up to two days per week (pending performance
  • Contract length: Initial 6 month contract + extension
  • Hours: up to 37 hours per week
Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
  • Provide expert advice and support to departmental officers, the Ministerial office, and members of the public on the IP Act, RTI Act, and other information access practices and procedures.
  • Manage complex RTI and privacy matters, including requests for legislative and non-legislative access to departmental information and documents, such as subpoenas, non-party disclosures, and requests under the Public Service Regulation 2008 (Qld).
  • Support the implementation of legislative changes, including the Information Privacy and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2023 (Qld), by working collaboratively with business areas to ensure compliance and readiness.
  • Promote awareness and compliance with privacy principles and the IP Act by developing and delivering training, guidance materials, and tools to departmental staff.
To thrive in this role, you will need to demonstrate:
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience in the application of the Right to Information Act 2009 (Qld) and the Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld), including the ability to interpret and apply legislation and decision-making processes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, deliver quality outcomes, and meet legislative deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to explain complex privacy principles in simple terms and deliver effective training to a variety of audiences.
  • Experience in conducting Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs), particularly in relation to metadata and technology data holdings, and the ability to provide practical advice on privacy risks and mitigation strategies.
