Opportunity:
I am working in partnership with a Local Council located in the beautiful tropical North Queensland. We are looking for experienced Transport Planner to lead the Infrastructure Planning and Assets and Fleet team on a transformative journey focusing on the needs and aspirations of the community.

The purpose of the Transport Planner will be to provide concept solutions and business cases with options in relation to identified transport infrastructure needs for 10-year capex plan.

Duties will include but not limited to:
  • Develop and recommend innovative solutions to identified transport infrastructure needs that improve Council’s service delivery.
  • Develop and recommend business cases with options to identified solutions for informed decision making.
  • Assist with the Development of a 10-year capital works plan liaising with Strategy Planning, Future Cities, Operations and Maintenance.
  • Develop and recommend sub-program business cases, project business cases, project request forms and project estimates as they relate to new and upgraded road infrastructure within the 10-year Capital Works Program.
  • Research and develop innovative solutions for efficient and effective service delivery.
  • Assist with development and review of traffic modelling analysis to produce high level road and traffic engineering designs, using software and other supporting calculations.
  • Review and recommend changes to council standard documentation, policies, procedures and information sheets on matters within the area of responsibility.
  • Ensure all reports for consideration by council are written in accordance with council standards and submitted for approval prior to the due date.
Requirements include:
  • Degree in Civil Engineering coupled with extensive experience (10+ years) with a broad range of experience in design, maintenance and operation of road and traffic infrastructure, Bachelor of Technology (Civil Engineering) or Associate Degree Civil Engineering will be considered with extensive experience in civil engineer (roads and traffic areas).
  • Network and intersection modelling and any experience with traffic signal design and operation.
  • Excellent knowledge and experience of traffic and road design principles, guidelines, Codes of Practice and relevant State documents including AustRoads Guides, Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices, Traffic and Road Use Management Manual (TRUM), Complete Streets and Queensland Road Rules.
  • Excellent knowledge and experience of standards and procedures used by Department of Transport and Main Roads and other external organisations in relation to road design and cost sharing arrangements with local government.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience with current industry standards of practice, in particular Australian Standards, in the design, construction and maintenance of roads and traffic infrastructure.
  • Current Queensland “C” class drivers licence.
  • 30212 QLD – General Safety Induction (Construction Industry)
