Public Sector People are working closely with a council in Melbourne’s Northern Suburbs to recruit a Band 5 level Transport Engineer on a 6 month fixed-term contract to join their experienced and supportive team.

Reporting to the Senior Transport Engineer you will be responsible for assisting with customer enquiries from a combination of residents, internal building team and internal planning team, preparing reports on transport related matters and investigating transport issues raised by internal and external stakeholders and developing appropriate solutions.  


Responsibilities and Experience for this role: 

• Investigate transport issues raised by internal and external stakeholders and develop appropriate solutions that reflect best practise and Council’s existing strategies.
• Assist and lead the development of internal and external transport related policies.
• Undertake relevant research for the preparation of strategies for traffic and other relevant technical issues.
• Prepare Council reports on transport related matters.
• Reviewing Transport Management Plans.

    
  The ideal candidate will have:

• A tertiary qualification in Transport/Urban Planning, Transport Engineering or related field. A lesser formal qualification will be considered with substantial relevant experience.
• Local Government experience is required, including experience in the delivery of traffic engineering services.
• Ability to investigate, negotiate and develop transport solutions that consider transport safety and access.
• Demonstrated understanding of best practice transport planning and engineering principles, road safety, design in the urban environment and construction principles.
• Highly skilled in prioritising work tasks to meet timeframes and ability to communicate when there is a risk that deliverables will not be achieved to seek help or receive advice on what to reprioritise.
• An understanding and knowledge of Local Government Legislation and procedures would be an advantage.
• Sound communication skills both written and verbal.
• Drivers Licence valid in Victoria.
• Experienced in the use of Microsoft Office, MS Project, AutoCAD, GIS systems, SIDRA and related software is preferred.
