Job Description

Public Sector People are working with a local Council in Melbourne’s North Eastern Suburbs to recruit a Senior Transport Engineer on a Band 6, for an initial 4 month contract with opportunity for extension.
As part of this role, you will be Providing advice and recommendations in relation to Councils road network, road safety, parking and traffic and transport issues, as well as developing and managing traffic and transport related projects and investigate and respond to community concerns.

Responsibilities and Experience for this role:

  • Provide advice and recommendations in relation to Council’s road network, road safety, parking and transport and traffic issues.
  • Assist in the management of resources, providing advice to and imposing regulatory conditions in support of the department’s objectives.
  • Develop and manage traffic and transport related projects including road safety improvements. 
  • Provide technical traffic management advice and make recommendations in relation to traffic and transport projects and issues.
  • Develop proposals to address accident black spot applications, public transport improvement projects, pedestrian improvement proposals and disability access issues.
  • Prepare concept designs and funding applications for traffic treatments and bicycle improvement works.
  • Monitor special projects undertaken by the team for quality, time and cost aspects.          
  • Investigate and respond to community concerns.
  • Liaise with external authorities, ratepayers, the general public and community groups on strategic issues and concerns associated with road issues, traffic and parking issues, projects, public transport, pedestrian and bicycle engineering design and construction issues.
  • Investigate and recommend environmental standards for application to public spaces and Council assets including, seating, bus shelters, car parks, street signs and streetscape.
  • Provide technical traffic and parking advice as part of the consideration of activity centre structure plans.
  • Assess and provide information on Council’s standards and requirements associated with engineering works.     
  The ideal candidate will have:
  • A degree in Civil Engineering, or relevant experience/qualifications
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent problem solving and gaining cooperation skills
  • Ability to work under pressure, undertake and manage many tasks and duties
  • Ability and confidence to make decisions and guide other staff based
  • A good understanding of Local Government operations and processes
