Job Description

Public Sector People (PSP) are currently looking to speak to an Safety & Wellbeing Support Officer to join a Local Government on temporary basis. 
  • 20th April 
  • 6 month contract 
  • $35.90 per hour plus super
  • 38 hours week
  • North Eastern Council

Safety & Wellbeing Support Officer

  • Support initiatives to continuously improve Safety & Wellbeing outcomes and create a culture that promotes accountability and values the wellbeing of our people.
  • To act as an internal consultant and provide support for teams/operational areas for Safety & Wellbeing initiatives.   
  • To undertake, as required, audits within Council to ensure appropriate strategies are in place to minimise identified risks, and to increase staff awareness. 
  • To maintain databases, prepare and analyse reports and present findings as required to area managers and staff.
  • Provide support for targeted teams/operational areas, improving proactive Safety & Wellbeing activities, processes, and documents on a collaborative basis.
  • Liaise with senior management, co-ordinators and employees to ensure all relevant Acts, Regulations, Codes of Practice and Guidelines are identified and communicated to staff in accessible language.
  • Monitor Council compliance with all applicable Legislation, Regulations and Codes of Practice on an ongoing basis.
  • Facilitate the ongoing review of Safety documentation including risk assessments to ensure control measures are effective in minimising the risk of injury to staff, volunteers, contractors and the public. 
 Further requirements include:   
  • Certificate in OHS or WHS (minimum)
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and negotiate with a broad range of internal stakeholders
  • Ability to build awareness, capability and engagement around safety in order to establish a sustainable, ingrained positive safety culture.
  • Experience in the delivery of Safety technical advice, to minimise risk across a diverse workforce
  • Ability to set timeframes and achieve goals
  • Ability to interpret and apply the OHS Act and other relevant legislation, compliance codes, Australian standards and guidance documentation.
