Public Sector People is proudly exclusively partnering Western Water to appoint a Project Engineer reporting to the Senior Project Manager – Gisborne RWP Upgrade Project and working within the Infrastructure Delivery Team.

The Gisborne RWP Upgrade Project is a $45 million dollar project with an ambitious timeline for completion. Inflows are close to exceeding the plant capacity, and a new plant is required at the soonest opportunity to ensure that Western Water continues to comply with its Environment Protection Authority (EPA) operating licence and the new Environmental Protection Act (2018) that is set to come into force from July 2021.
Your role will be to assist the Senior Project Manager deliver the Gisborne Recycled Water Plant Upgrade, including early works, tendering and contract delivery support, from develop phase through to finalise phase and ensure implementation in accordance with Western Water’s Capital Program, legislated requirements and Western Water’s technical standards.
The opportunity will have core activities such as:  
  • Works under general direction of the Senior Project Manager for the delivery of the Gisborne Recycled Water Plant Upgrade major project, in accordance with the Investment Management Framework and Procurement Procedures while exercising a degree of autonomy to deliver early works packages.
  • Coordination of the activities of contractors and consultants in relation to project quality, budget and time.
  • Report and present technical solutions to senior project manager and project control group
  • Contribute to Western Water’s vision “Strong Communities, Growing Together” and to provide high quality customer service and represent Western Water as a customer focused organisation to the Community. Ensure excellent customer service is provided at all times.
  • Ensure the community and public safety and wellbeing of all, from employees to contract or consultants on all projects and meet all OHS, Environmental and Quality requirements at all times.  
To be considered for the role, you will require:  
  • Experience in capital works (involving water, wastewater and recycled water network, treatment plant, pumping and storage assets) projects
  • Financial/budget and schedule management on a number of ongoing projects.
  • Able to undertake project management consistent with Western Water’s strategic direction, project management framework, contract and procurement guidelines.
  • Competent in project management with capacity to manage multiple ongoing projects and clearly understand how project outcomes interact with the wider organisational objectives and strategy and support these.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Project software
Furthermore, preference will be given to candidates with the following:
  • Bachelor’s in Engineering, with relevant experience in the water industry.
  • Proven construction and project experience of multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Sound engagement and interpersonal skills for positive community consultation and stakeholder interaction.
  • Ability to work proactively and autonomously whilst acting within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated strong customer service focus.
  • Results oriented, with demonstrable research, analysis and problem-solving abilities. 
The role will initially be ‘working from home’ in accordance with Western Water’s COVID-19 roadmap and will transition back to the Sunbury offices in accordance with the roadmap timeline. A site office will be set up at the Gisborne RWP site once construction commences at which point the roles will be construction site based.
