About the Role:

Public Sector People are currently seeking a Project Acquisitions Officer to join our local government client in South Brisbane. This is a 6 month contract and we are seeking someone who has previous acquisition experience in Queensland. Legal skills in this area would also be highly regarded.

The Project Acquisition Officer shall liaise with other Branches across Council (including but not limited to the Roads Infrastructure Delivery, Roads Infrastructure Planning, Water Infrastructure and Water Operations branches, and the Logan Water Infrastructure Alliance) and provide specialist advice relative to the delivery of Council’s capital works projects.

Key Responsibilities: 
  • Provide expert knowledge on the acquisition of property interests in Queensland, either by negotiation or using compulsory acquisition processes under the Acquisition of Land Act 1967.
  • Deliver timely, thorough and strategic advice in relation to the delivery of the property acquisitions for Council’s infrastructure projects, which can often be of a political or sensitive nature.
  • Actively support the Corporate Property Officers in the acquisition of land, easements and access for Council's infrastructure projects.
  • Draft, review and negotiate appropriate legal contracts to give effect to property acquisition transactions.
  • Ensure compliance with Council’s statutory and governance obligations, including legislation and Council’s policies, procedures and delegations of authority.
Key Skills: 
  • Tertiary qualifications in law, public administration or project management are highly desirable.
  • Well-developed knowledge and extensive practical experience in property acquisitions (including resumption powers under Acquisition of Land Act), preferably with experience in a local government context.
  • Demonstrated high level communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills including the ability to:
  • Negotiate, advocate, engage and present information clearly; and remain impartial and communicate with influence on sensitive/complex matters.
