Job Description

Public Sector People are currently working with a local council Melbourne’s North East to recruit a Permits Inspection Officer for a temporary contract assignment.

You will be responsible for permit related inspections and the management of information and financials relevant to permits issued. This includes maintenance of all permits and permit registers (statutory or otherwise) that impact on the building environment. The objective of the Permits Inspection Officer is to provide effective evaluation, delivery and monitoring off statutory permits and enforcement for Municipal Laws – Construction Management.
  
This will be an initial 3-month temporary contract assignment with opportunity for extension until the end of 2022.

Duties will include but not limited to:
  • Effective coordination, delivery and monitoring of Construction Local Law Permits and inspections.
  • Undertake proactive permit inspections to ensure permit compliance
  • Coordinate information and educational requirements for all related statutory permits
  • Liaise with Council’s Transport & Traffic, Asset Management and Parks departments and service authorities to ensure uniformity and consistency of requirements in all works on roads
  • Liaise with Senior Construction Management Officer to ensure inspections needs for Permits are met
  • Assist in the delivery of Branch statutory permits and related inspections
  • Liaise with permit applicants to ensure that Council’s Local Laws and policies in relation to work on roads, nuisance abatement and protection of assets are satisfied
  • Liaise with Senior Construction Management Officer and Customer Service to ensure billing of permits is undertaken accurately
  • Produce periodic reports relating to permits and inspections
  • Resolve a range of construction related Local Law matters associated with the day-to-day and longer-term operations of the team
  
Requirements include:
  • Qualifications relating to building inspections, construction, construction local laws or project management.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in Construction Local Law or construction industry/built environment.
  • Knowledge of OH&S, environmental, construction and traffic management requirements and procedures
  • Excellent negotiation and networking skills with the ability to influence the environment on building related matters through developed networks
  • Local Government experience and extensive knowledge of construction related Local Laws
  • Experience in appraisal of temporary structures, scaffold, gantries, prescribed temporary structures and Local Law Permits
  • A current Victorian drivers license
  • Industry White Card
