Job Description

Hobsons Bay City Council is located on Port Phillip Bay, located only 10kms west of central Melbourne and covers an area of approximately 66 square kms.

Hobsons Bay has more than 20kms of bay frontage, quality residential areas, a huge expanse of environmentally significant open space and a range of major industrial complexes which contribute significantly to the economy of Victoria.

These features contribute to the City’s culture which is strongly linked to its maritime heritage, environment, industry and lifestyle.

About the position:

As the Municipal Building Surveyor, working in partnership with the Manager of Planning, Building & Health, you will be responsible for the delivery of an innovative, contemporary and customer focused building control service, ensuring the safety of the Hobsons Bay Community.

The position will provide leadership and guidance to the Building Control Unit and foster a positive culture focusing on strong teamwork and continuous improvement.  

As the MBS you will be responsible for all statutory obligations under the Building Act, including overseeing enforcement of the building legislation within the municipality and ensuring statutory recording and reporting functions are undertaken in an effective and timely manner.

The successful candidate will have:
  • Registration as a Building Surveyor – Unlimited as issued with the VBA
  • Excellent leadership, communication and time-management skills
  • A customer-centric approach with the ability to foster and drive relationships across a wide range of stakeholders
