Job Description

Public Sector People is proudly and exclusively partnering with City of Monash to appoint a Manager Workplace Relations and Payroll that reports directly to the Executive Manager, People and Culture.  The role will have direct oversight of a small team of Human Resources and Payroll professionals. The role will manage all workplace relations matters, operationally and strategically, including the City of Monash Enterprise Agreement. The role will also oversee the effective delivery of a progressive and compliant Employment Contracts Framework and the Human Resources Policy and Procedure Framework.
The role will deputise for the Executive Director as required and will focus on core attributes:
  • People leadership and management,
  • Employee and Industrial Relations (IR),
  • Payroll and Audit and Risk Management, and
  • Reporting, delivery of key projects and general HR support.
To be considered for the role, you will hold a relevant tertiary qualification in Human Resources Management, and/or qualifications or relevant experience. It will be essential that you have:
  • Significant experience in leading a similar team with workplace relations expertise and hands on experience managing an Enterprise Agreement end to end,
  • Experience overseeing and managing hands on complex employee and industrial relations matters,
  • Demonstrated experience managing a diverse portfolio including payroll, reporting and risk management,
  • An ability to respond to key priorities as they arise while maintaining core operations,
  • Highly developed stakeholder management and relationship building skills,
  • An ability to flex operational detail with big picture thinking,
  • Exceptional team working and collaboration skills organisational wide,
  • An ability to thrive in a fast paced and complex work environment,
  • Local government knowledge and experience is highly advantageous. 
Furthermore, you will possess confident personal presentation and communication skills with the ability to influence and engage diverse and senior stakeholders.  You have the capacity to work under pressure, be agile and adept to change with a ‘can-do’ attitude. You also possess an ability to deal with the detail, with the bigger picture in mind and appreciate diversity and inclusion.
The commencement of the role will be based upon the status COVID-19 Government Safety guidelines.  Relevant probity checks will be required.
