The Role

Reporting to the Director Environment and Infrastructure with oversight of a team of 30 including 5 direct reports, this role manages the planning, development and delivery of Council’s building, landscape, civil and public realm infrastructure portfolio of projects, with a focus on the planning and delivery of Council’s Capital Works Program to be on time and on budget with fit for purpose outcomes.

The position will also be responsible for managing a PMO and providing expert advice and technical support in the project management and delivery of cross organisational projects. A key emphasis is on integrating high quality urban design and place making principles into the planning, design and delivery all capital works projects. The position is responsible for providing customer focused services which reflects the objectives of Stonnington City Council to best manage the quality and performance of its network and for continuous improvement of the service delivery in line with Best Value Principles.

As an key leader of the Environment and Infrastructure Management Team, the incumbent will be expected to manage their direct team but also to contribute to the overall management of the Environment and Infrastructure Directorate.

We are seeking applications from established, respected leaders who bring a comprehensive understanding in the planning and delivery of projects, particularly in the areas of building and civil infrastructure, open space and parks master planning, and urban and landscape design and delivery of public spaces. The successful incumbent will have solid expertise in Contract and Project Management and a strong understanding of project governance is essential. Sound understanding of Strategic Planning and Operational Management are important, as is knowledge of landscape architecture, urban design and civil engineering planning and delivery, particularly in the area of roads and drainage.

Applicants will bring tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering, Project Management, or a related field, with extensive senior management experience in relevant areas of responsibility. Post graduate qualifications in management or related field and previous experience and/or knowledge of the Local Government environment is highly desirable.
