Job Description

Public Sector People are working with a local council in the Inner Suburbs of metro Melbourne to recruit a Band 5 level civil Engineering Officer for a temporary position on an initial 1-month temporary contract.

As a Civil Engineering Officer you will be responsible for providing technical support, advice and high-level supervision to ensure that all civil works undertaken within the Council are in compliance. This position will be for initial 1-month temporary contract with opportunity for extension for up to 6-months.  
You will be provided an opportunity to gain valuable experience in Civil Engineering within a diverse inner-city council, including:
  • On the job learning from experienced civil engineers and road works supervisors.
  • Gain knowledge to road management act and regulations governing Council activities.
  • Gain in depth knowledge in road maintenance and adherence to laws and codes relating to road maintenance.
  • Develop communication skills, stakeholder relationships with internal and external entities.
  • Develop skills using programs such as Microsoft project, AutoCAD, customer request management system, asset management system etc.

Responsibilities will include:
  • Administer the activities of road renewal and reinstatement works & ensure that the compliance requirements are adhered to.
  • Reviewing inspection records for completeness and accuracy.
  • Identifying issues with completed works and issuing rectification requirements.
  • QA & OHS auditing and reporting.
  • Subcontractor management.
  • Liasing between design engineers, contractors, service authorities and stakeholders.
  • Assist with estimation, preparation of schedules, scope of works and quotation documents.
  • Civil design of road infrastructure, drainage etc.
  • Administration duties as associated with projects.
  The ideal candidate will have:
  • Full work rights in Australia.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Analytical skills to identify construction issues and provide suitable solutions.
  • Results driven attitude and ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
  • Competent in the use of MS Office (particularly Word, Excel) and Adobe.
  • Effective task management and time management.
  • Open Drivers' Licence.
  • Civil Engineering Degree or Similar.
  • Relevant work experience in civil construction / road construction industry.
