Public Sector People are working with a local council to recruit a Band 6 Civil Design Engineer for a 3-month temporary contract assignment.
Role Objective: To provide design and investigation services related to stormwater drainage, roads, and traffic management in accordance with prescribed standards and industry best practices.
Key Responsibilities: - Prepare engineering designs, specifications, and bills of quantities in readiness for detailed cost estimates and tender documents in accordance with recognised standards, including arranging, coordinating, or undertaking field and land surveys for selected and approved solutions.
- Investigate, analyse, and research feasible, cost-effective solutions for road, drainage, and traffic issues arising from customer enquiries and available data including community consultation.
- Investigate drainage problems and assist with specialist investigations, including floodplain and stormwater studies; prepare detailed options analyses and provide recommendations to management.
- Undertake and develop special charge scheme projects.
- Develop strong working relationships with relevant authorities such as VicRoads, DSE, Melbourne Water, and Catchment Management Authorities regarding roads, traffic, and drainage issues.
- Prepare detailed technical reports and project briefs for selected solutions and capital works projects related to road, traffic, and drainage issues.
- Prepare reports and correspondence on matters within areas of responsibility.
- Provide technical assistance and advice to other council units.
- Prepare grant applications, liaise with funding agencies, and provide regular updates.
- Prepare a report for ELT/Councillor presentation as required.
- Ability to perform other duties related to the position as required in accordance with the multi-skilling provisions as per the Council Enterprise Agreement.
Experience and Qualifications: - A degree in Civil Engineering, with relevant experience in road management and design, drainage analysis and design, and traffic engineering.
- Proven experience and sound knowledge in the design of road and drainage, traffic management infrastructure, and road safety upgrades.
- Proficiency in using drafting and design software (Civil Site, Civil 3D), along with demonstrated experience and knowledge of drainage modelling systems and related software tools.
- Ability to take ownership of tasks, demonstrate initiative, and deliver practical technical solutions with a strong customer-focused approach.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear and concise technical documentation and correspondence.
