Public Sector People is thrilled to announce that our team is growing! Over the last week, we welcomed Marcel Lafontaine on board, who will be joining our consultants Matt Larner and Paul Gleeson in the search and selection space down in Melbourne. Marcel has had extensive recruiting experience within the government space in both his home country of Canada and here in Australia and is looking forward to growing and building strong relationships with our clients and candidates.

During his first week, we asked Marcel a few get-to-know-you questions to find out a little bit more about what brought him to the PSP team and what he hopes to bring to his new role. Read Marcel’s answers below:

What drew you to recruitment?

There has always been something about working and the role that career and occupation plays in most people’s lives that intrigues me. Shortly after leaving university in Canada with a degree in Labour Relations/HR from McMaster University, someone by chance mentioned a career in recruitment. The fit seemed perfect and that conversation solidified my future to pursue a career in recruitment. It allows me to play a positive role in the direction of people’s careers and ultimately their lives.

What was it that attracted you to Public Sector People?

Public Sector People and the greater business has consistently been seen in a positive light through my years in recruitment. Often seeing and hearing of the PSP reputation, I thought it was time to find out more. Feeling confident that information and messaging is genuine through any recruitment process is crucial. After meeting several people in the business, I realised that everyone had genuine care and passion for their own careers as well as mine.

What does Prioritising People mean to you?

I think the term Prioritising People must hold significance to anyone in recruitment. It sits at the centre of literally everything we do daily. To me, it means the difference between being great at what I do, or average.

Your new role will be focusing on Search & Selection – what will this entail and what do you hope to bring to the team?

Search and Selection is the recruitment service that will allow our clients the best chance to compete and attract elite talent.

A unique offering in the marketplace- A robust search and selection recruitment process that is applied to technical, managerial levels of government, focused on the built form environment. Spending the last number of years executing technical leadership roles within major government projects, I am looking to deliver an honest and competitive approach for our clients.

What can your clients and candidates expect from you?

Clients can expect that I`ll operate as an extension and representation of their own business always with their best interest and end goals in mind. Candidates can be assured that my approach and advice is far from a transactional one. I have a long term and genuine interest in providing accurate and tailored advice to potential candidates. I am here to help, and if along the way we find and secure a role, bonus!

If you could live anywhere, where would it be?

The most difficult question so far. Would be somewhere I can be close to my family in both Canada and Australia. Tough ask!
