At Public Sector People we have a number of consultants who specialise on recruiting for a particular industry within the public sector and therefore have an extensive knowledge on the market they recruit for and what organisations are looking for when hiring new talent. Our consultants can then utilise this knowledge to ensure their candidates have the best and most-up-to-date information when applying for roles as well as guiding them to roles that will best match their needs.
Public Sector People have been lucky enough to welcome a new consultant, Wallentina Simmons to our Sydney team. Within NSW, Wallentina focuses on the professional space, recruiting for roles within Finance, Human Resources, Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) and Learning and Development to name a few. We’ve provided a little more information on Wallentina's recruitment process, the relationship she develops with both her clients and candidates and the current roles she has available.
Can you explain your role at Public Sector People?
I’m a Business Leader specialising in HR, Finance and Safety recruitment across the public sector
What are the types of positions you recruit for?
People Business Partners, Talent Acquisition Partners, Health Safety & Wellbeing Officers, Accountants, Revenue, Payroll and Safety Coordinators.
What are the types of candidates you ideally look for to fill these roles?
The ideal candidate will have public sector experience, are adaptable and able to hit the ground running as the majority of my roles will be contract roles.
For active jobseekers, what are the key things your successful applicants have in common ?
A want to working in the public sector is key, my candidates often enjoy the variety that comes along with that role.
What commitment will you make to the active job seekers you choose to work with?
I will work hard to find you a suitable role based on your experience and our client's requirements. I aim to be open and transparent with job searches and give as much information on your experience. I work honestly and will give you guidance on the market.
Why is the aftercare stage so important in the recruitment process- especially within finance and HR?
Aftercare is so important for both the candidate and client. It builds relationships, trust and creates an open and honest conversation about how the role is going, if both parties are happy or if they are facing any challenges which can be rectified sooner rather than later.
How do you conduct the aftercare process in the roles you recruit for?
Regular phone calls. I will check in with them on their start date, ensuring the candidate has had all of their inductions, office introductions and WHS. From there on I keep in contact every few weeks with both the candidate and client. Covering off on performance, fitting in with the team, WHS, contract extensions etc. Face to face aftercare is done quiet regularly as well – personally I enjoy this process the most.
