FIRST IMPRESSIONS COUNT
A cover letter or email is your chance to stand out from the crowd. In some cases, it is part of the application process. The covering letter is your opportunity to explain to an employer what attracts you to their company and vacancy. You can outline your experience, skills and proudest achievements in detail. Make sure you write a new covering letter for each job you apply for, so you can tailor it to the role. If you’re unsure as to whether the advertiser would like a cover letter give them a call and ask, it’s an opportunity for you to get a head start!
HOW TO STRUCTURE YOUR COVER LETTER
Use the first paragraph to introduce yourself and explain why you are applying for the role.
In the second paragraph, explain what interests you about the company and want this job - use examples of key projects, blog articles or initiatives they have introduced.
When writing the third paragraph, match their key job requirements with your key skills, knowledge and experience – don’t forget to give examples.
Lastly, in the final paragraph you should reinforce what attracts you to their company, and why you would make an excellent candidate.
