It's a healthy market for Public Sector Finance candidates...

Town Planning Career Market Update

The good news for finance candidates is local councils are moving very quickly when a suitable finance candidate is on the market.

A few recent examples confirm this…
A local council had a project-based need, working with State bodies and were looking to invest in an accountant with local government experience including Technology One. The attractive hourly rate and a high volume of applicants resulted in this position being filled in a matter of days.

A local council responded to a candidate who Bryony has worked with extensively. They needed someone who understands the environment and the systems and accepted Bryony's candidate within 24 hrs and starting within a week.

Another council had a 6 month contract for a Systems Accountant focusing on Technology One. The successful candidate came from the corporate side but had extensive Technology One experience. After a couple of weeks, the council decided to look for a permanent candidate advertised the same position, which the contractor applied for, was offered and accepted the role.

Examples like the above, demonstrating a real focus on finding people to fill clearly defined needs and investing in the right people, are common in the Public Sector.  The contract market is extremely competitive for councils to attract accounting staff, especially if they have specific systems experience, such as Technology One experience.

Typical Finance roles Public Sector People are recruiting...
Management Accountants, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Revenue, Systems Accountant, Finance Officers, Financial Accounting and Senior Accountants in Metro & Regional Victoria.

Contractor hourly rates...
Hourly rates are competitive within the Local Council Market with rates regularly going above the local government modern award rate in the in-demand areas.

  • Accounts Payable  $29-$35/hour plus
  • Managing Accountants $40 - $50/hour plus super
  • Senior finance accountant roles can be up to $70/hour.
